Our services

We handle the full range of tax and accounting services for individuals. Whatever your situation, we'll make sure it's done properly.

  • Most people leave money behind with their return. Not through anything dishonest, just because they don't know what they're entitled to claim. We go through it properly: your occupation, your actual expenses, your circumstances. Ben De Rosa has spent six-plus years on complex individual returns, particularly for frontline workers like paramedics, nurses, police officers, teachers, and engineers who have deductions that generic online tools simply won't pick up. You can lodge in person, online, or by email. We make it straightforward.

  • Waiting until June to think about tax is like checking the weather after you've already left the house. Tax planning works best when it happens throughout the year. We look at your income, your upcoming decisions, and your deductions to make sure nothing catches you off guard at lodgement time and you're not paying more than you need to. That can include timing income and deductions, structuring around investments, or working through options specific to your employment or business situation.

  • Capital Gains Tax catches people off guard, usually because they didn't think about it until after they'd already sold. The rules around what's taxable, what's exempt, and what discount applies are more involved than most people expect. Where possible, we help you understand your position before you make a move. Where the sale has already happened, we make sure your return reflects the correct treatment. Getting this wrong with the ATO isn't a minor inconvenience.

  • Running your own super fund gives you more control over where your money goes. It also means more compliance obligations. Annual returns, audits, contribution rules, investment strategy requirements: all of it needs to be managed correctly to stay on the right side of the ATO. We help individual SMSF trustees stay compliant and on top of their obligations, so the paperwork doesn't become a job in itself.

  • Salary packaging can reduce the tax you pay on everyday expenses, but only if it's set up correctly for your situation. It's particularly relevant for healthcare workers and employees in not-for-profit or FBT-exempt industries who often have access to benefits most people don't know about. We'll walk you through what's available, whether it actually makes sense given your income and employer, and how to use it without creating problems further down the track.

  • Investment property tax is more involved than most people realise. Depreciation schedules, repairs versus capital improvements, interest deductions, and the way all of that interacts with CGT when you eventually sell: it all needs to be handled correctly. We work with property investors to make sure they're claiming what they're entitled to and not claiming what they shouldn't. If you're buying your first investment property, it's worth a conversation before settlement, not after.

  • A letter from the ATO doesn't always mean trouble, but it does need a proper response. Whether you're facing a formal audit, a review, or a request to substantiate claims, having a CPA handle the correspondence makes a real difference. We liaise with the ATO on your behalf, explain what's being asked, and work to resolve the matter as cleanly as possible. The approach is simple: deal with it properly, and deal with it promptly.

  • Lodging tax returns for a deceased estate is something most people deal with during an already difficult time. There are specific rules around the date of death return, income earned by the estate after death, and how assets are treated for Capital Gains Tax. We handle the process carefully so executors and family members aren't navigating unfamiliar tax territory on their own.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions we get about our services.

  • More than you'd think. The most common ones people miss are work-related expenses paid out of pocket but never tracked including union fees, professional memberships, tools, uniforms, work-related phone or internet use. If you work from home, the method you use to calculate that deduction matters. If your job involves a vehicle, that opens up another set of deductions entirely. It depends on your occupation and your situation, which is exactly why we go through it properly rather than just processing numbers.

  • myTax works fine if your situation is simple. One employer, no investments, no vehicle use, no home office, no occupation-specific deductions. But if any of those apply to you, the gap between what myTax prompts you for and what you're actually entitled to claim can be meaningful. We ask the questions the software doesn't, and we know which answers lead to legitimate deductions you'd otherwise leave on the table.

  • Yes, and you wouldn't be the first. We help clients get back on track with overdue returns regularly, and without judgement. The sooner you address it the better. Late lodgement penalties and interest grow over time, but the ATO has processes for people who come forward voluntarily, which can reduce what you owe. Get in touch and we'll work out where things stand.

  • It depends on the complexity of your situation. A straightforward return with a single employer and standard deductions is priced differently to one involving an investment property, capital gains, an SMSF, or multiple income sources. We're upfront about pricing before we start, so there's no bill at the end that catches you off guard. Book a free consultation, tell us what your situation looks like, and we'll give you a clear number.

  • It's straightforward. You let us know you'd like to move across, we contact your previous accountant on your behalf to request your files and tax history, and we take it from there. You don't need to have an awkward conversation with anyone or chase paperwork yourself. Once we have what we need, we get you set up properly and you'll be ready to go for your next return. Most people are surprised by how little they actually have to do.

  • Yes. If you lodge yourself through myTax, the deadline is 31 October. Lodge through a registered tax agent like Aevum and you're generally entitled to a later deadline, often as far as May the following year. The key is getting on our books before 31 October. Miss that window without an extension and the ATO can issue a failure-to-lodge penalty. If you're cutting it close, reach out sooner rather than later.

  • Yes, and it's worth getting right from the start. Rental income needs to be declared, but there's a solid range of deductions available too. Loan interest, property management fees, repairs, depreciation on fixtures and fittings. The line between what counts as a repair and a capital improvement trips people up more often than you'd expect. And when you eventually sell, CGT enters the picture. We make sure investment property returns are done correctly so there are no surprises down the track.

  • We can fix it. If you think something was missed or incorrectly claimed, we can review prior year returns and prepare an amendment through the ATO. It works both ways. If you've overclaimed something, it's better to address it now than wait for the ATO to find it. If you've underclaimed, an amendment could put money back in your pocket. Either way, we'll tell you honestly what we find.

  • For an individual return: income statements or payment summaries, private health insurance details, receipts for work-related expenses, bank statements if you have investment income, and details of any assets sold during the year. Don't stress if it's not all in order. Bring what you have and we'll work through it together.

  • No. We work with clients all over Australia via video call, email, and cloud-based tools. If you'd rather never set foot in an office, you can lodge your return entirely by email. If you are in Perth and want to come in, we're in Balcatta with free on-site parking. Book online and pick whichever option suits you.
